Aron Simis Possui graduação em Matemática pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (1963), mestrado em Matematica - Queen's University (1969) e doutorado em Matematica - Queen's University (1972). Atualmente é professor titular da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, tendo sido Pesquisador Titular do IMPA (1972-1981). É membro titular da Academia Brasileira de Ciências (ABC) e da Academia de Ciências dos Paises em Desenvolvimento (TWAS), onde tem assento como membro de comissão de premiação. Atualmente exerce funções de editor na area de matematica dos Anais da ABC e é membro de comite executivo junto ao Projeto do INCT em matemática e ao acordo Brasil-França na area de matemática. Sua produção científica é na área de Álgebra Comutativa e Geometria Algébrica, com interações em combinátória algébrica e computação algébrica.

"Among the many prominent scholars in this broad area of research, Professor Simis plays
a special role. His noteworthy accomplishments, often fruit of joint collaborations with other leading experts such as Bruns, Herzog, Huneke, Trung, Ulrich, Valla and Vasconcelos, have shaped the way one studies graded algebras. For instance, one of his major accomplishments has been the creation and the development of a family of graded complexes, dubbed approximation complexes, that has appeared in the solution of several long standing problems and is an essential tool in the study of blowup algebras. Jointly with Vasconcelos and Villarreal, he has also made ground breaking contributions to the so called ideal theory of graphs. In addition, Professor Simis a former president of the Brazilian Mathematical Society and an active member of both the Brazilian and the Third World Academies of Science has a distinguished leadership record in promoting and coordinating the development of research at the international level. He has organized several international schools at ICTP in Trieste, at IMPA in Rio de Janeiro and more
generally in Latin America. He is one of the senior member of the Brazilian Núcleo de ´ Algebra Comutativa e Geometria Alg´ebrica (ALGA) and has tremendously helped in shaping a new generation of algebraists and geometers in Brazil.". | Descrição: Enfoque: a tradicional ligação entre a álgebra comutativa e a geometria algébrica transcende a mera associação de linguagem. Recentemente, métodos nas duas disciplinas afins mostram-se intimamente relacionados. A essência deste projeto reside no aprofundamento de tais métodos, com a partipação de pesquisadores das duas vertentes.
Objetivos: classificação e propriedades de variedades (resp. álgebras graduadas) segundo o comportamento de suas variedades associadas (res. álgebras associadas), tais como a variedade das retas secantes, a variedade das retas tangentes, a variedade tangencial, o "join imerso" de duas subvariedades, a fibra central de uma explosão (resp. as álgebras graduadas baseadas no ideal diagonal, as álgebras de Rees de ideais e de módulos, a álgebra de uma fibra especial).. | Descrição: This project is situated midway between a classical problem and its modern perspective.
One special feature it encloses is a new property of polynomial ideals and/or of its differential associated structures.
The framework is pretty much the following: we are given a polynomial ring R = k[X] =
k[X_1, . . . ,X_n] over a field k of characteristic zero and a set of polynomials f = {f_1, . . . , f_m}
such that f_j(0) = 0, all j. Let D(f ) stand for the image of the transposed Jacobian matrix of the f´s, i.e., it is the submodule generated by the differentials of f . the transposed Jacobian module of f . Then a general question that sums up several features of classical work by Invariant Theory experts can be stated as:
Question 1.1 What is the relation between the numerical invariants attached to the subalgebra k[f ] of R and those attached to the transposed Jacobian module D(f )?
As a preliminary result along this line of question, one has
Proposition (Brumatti-Simis) If char(k) = 0 then dim k[f ] = rank D(f ).
Clearly, one cannot go very far without assuming a little more about f as the
numerical invariants attached to the subalgebra k[f ] are hard to control in general. A fair
reasonably wielding case is that when the polynomials f are homogeneous and constitute a
minimal set of generators of the algebra.

| Descrição: Let (A,m) stand for a local ring and its maximal ideal or an N-graded ring with M=(m_0,A_{+}) its maximal graded ideal, where (A_0,m_0) is local.
Let E be a finitely generated A-module (graded in the graded
case) with a rank r. Recall that the non-free locus of E is the Fitting ideal F_r(E).
The following question was posed in a previous paper by this author jointly with K. Smith and B. Ulrich (Math. Z. 2001):
"Let E be a finitely generated A-module (graded if A is graded) with rank r such that E/\tau(E) is not free. Let {\mathfrak F}_r(E) denote the Fitting ideal of order r of E. When is the analytic spread of (\bigwedge^rE) at least the codimension of that Fitting ideal?"

| Descrição: SUB-PROJETOS TEMÁTICOS
1. Algebras de Rees de módulos:
Um longo trabalho de sistematização da teoria foi iniciado em anos anteriores, tendo culminado em 2002. Neste trabalho, a teoria das álgebras "blowup" de módulos é refeita ab initio, através do desenvolvimento do método do ideal genérico de Bourbaki. Do ponto de vista geométrico, o método consiste grossomodo em empregar uma seção genérica conveniente do feixe de módulos associado. Neste espírito obtém-se uma situação em que a álgebra de Rees do módulo é uma deformação daquela do seu ideal genérico de Bourbaki, o que fornece um instrumento eficiente para transferir propriedades de uma álgebra a outra.
2.Transformações de Cremona e aplicações biracionais:
A idéia do uso de sizigias para o estudo das transformações de Cremona, divisada por Hulek e Schreier, foi substancialmente desenvolvida. Conjugando esta idéia com o método do módulo jacobiano dual, introduzido na década passada por Simis-Ulrich-Vasconcelos, foi estabelecido um critério geral para uma aplicação racional ser de Cremona e, como sub-produto, um método efetivo de determinar a aplicação inversa. Também foram estudadas aplicações racionais mais gerais e obtido um teorema de classificação das aplicações racionais quadro-quádricas do espaço projetivo P^{2n-2} na Grassmanniana de retas de P^n.
3. Álgebras com estrutura jacobiana:
O subprojeto se situa em tres vertentes principais, que guardam forte conexão mútua: (1) Álgebras de carater tangencial, incluindo o cone de estrelas tangentes e o ideal de uma variedade t-secante; (2) Álgebras relacionadas com aplicações biracionais, tais como a álgebra simétrica e de Rees do ideal Jacobiano; (3) Derivações e idealizadores de tipo diferencial, incluindo estudo de cotas para os graus de campos vetoriais algébricos e a versão algébrica dos divisores livres e Koszul-livres à la Saito et. al.. No seu conjunto, minha produção cientifica tem como eixo a transcrição aprofundada de problemas de geometria algebrica e combinatoria algebrica em termos de invariantes da algebra comutativa e homologica.
Alem da bolsa de produtividade do CNPq, sou recipiente de projetos de pesquisa, no passado e em periodos recentes. Entre estes, contam-se projetos em nivel nacional e no exterior - por exemplo, junto ao NSF norte americano.
Minha colaboração cientifica estende-se a varios paises, entre os mais destacados os EUA, a Italia, a Espanha, a Franca, o Mexico e o Vietnam..
